Some opportunities to try to influence lawmakers this week:

MONDAY

• THE HOUSE convenes at 10:45 a.m. to hear an address from President Bush. Joint assembly with the Senate begins at 11:15 a.m. on his proposals to change Social Security; Ways and Means Committee (90 minutes after adjournment, 521 Blatt Building) takes up tuition tax credit bill known as Put Parents in Charge.

• THE SENATE convenes at 11 a.m. Moves to the House chamber at 11:15 a.m. to hear an address from President Bush on his proposals to change Social Security. No meetings scheduled.

TUESDAY

• THE HOUSE convenes at 10 a.m.; Education and Public Works Committee (2 p.m., 433 Blatt Building) takes up bill requiring public colleges and universities to develop energy savings plan. Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee (2:30 p.m., 403 Blatt Building) takes up Senate bill 581, that would require licensing and inspections of commercial boilers.

• THE SENATE convenes at noon; Judiciary Committee (9 a.m., 105 Gressette Building) takes up gang prevention act.

WEDNESDAY

• THE HOUSE convenes at 10 a.m.; Banking and Consumer Affairs subcommittee (9 a.m., 403 Blatt Building) takes up bill that would require hotels and other lodgings that do not have sprinkler systems to post a sign saying so.

• THE SENATE convenes at a time to be determined; Education Committee (9:30 a.m., 207 Gressette Building) takes up a bill creating physical education standards for kindergarten through eighth-grade students.
