Traveling Ten
Commandments |
(Columbia-AP) -- More than a hundred people
gathered at the Statehouse steps on Tuesday to protest court
decisions that have blocked public displays of the Ten
Commandments.
Members of the "Keep the Commandments Caravan"
are stopping in five states to rally support around the display of
the Ten Commandments.
Rally leaders asked supporters to sign
online petitions and follow the group to Washington to march on the
steps of the Supreme Court.
David Kennison is South
Carolina's member of the National Board of Directors of the
ACLU.
Kennison says he's concerned that religious freedom is
being threatened by people who falsely believe support from the
government advances the cause of religion.
Rally organizers
say Governor Mark Sanford was invited to speak at the rally but did
not attend. Sanford spokesman Will Folks says the governor had other
meetings scheduled for the day. |
