Charges Against Former Oconee County Supervisor Dropped
Solicitor Drops Charges As Part Of Deal
WALHALLA, S.C. --
Criminal charges against a former Oconee County supervisor have been
dropped.
Ann Hughes (pictured left) faced
three embezzlement charges and a charge of misconduct in office. She was
accused of using public funds to pay for personal items.
Monday, the 13th Circuit Solicitor dropped the charges as part of a
negotiated deal.
The deal requires Gov. Mark Sanford to reinstate Hughes to her old
job. Hughes will then resign that job and take a new one with Oconee
County. She will be responsible for making sure that county buildings and
schools meet standards to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Hughes will also have to drop any civil litigation against the
county and pay her attorney's fees.
