The Constructions crews were working on the road to get it in better shape since they have not had the funding to repair it over the last few years. This was good news. They have milled up the area and it has been sitting for over two months waiting to be paved. They have placed some leveling to cover up a few cracks in the road that appeared after milling. Now let me tell you why they did this. The leveling placed over the crack keeps out the water. The water and cold are detrimental to asphalt. When water gets under the surface and it freezes, the water expands and the asphalt cracks. Thus causing the same issues you had before. Normally the construction company has to cover the road within 7 days of it being milled. This gives the new asphalt a good surface to adhere to. This being said, they have not covered the milled area in over two months and this is letting water to get into the cracks and under the asphalt that is currently on the road. This WILL cause the asphalt to be in the same shape it was before they started. Can you get with SCDOT and figure out why they are wasting our money by not following there own guidelines? Thanks, Gerald
