(Columbia-AP) April 21, 2003 - The South Carolina
Department of Insurance is winning praise from Governor
Mark Sanford for its skillful handling of budget cuts.
Sanford's spokesman Will Folks says the agency and
Director Ernst Csiszar have set an example other
agencies could follow.
In the past two years, the Insurance Department has
gone from $5.5 million in state funding
to $4.2 million and has cut about 18 positions.
Agency staffers say Csiszar began working to cut
costs two years ago when budget cuts appeared likely.
