The Villages is our home town and you were invited. We feel you may not have been aware of some recent activities in The Villages and wanted to share our views. Recently, The Villages Republican Club held a straw poll, results were gathered and the results showed an overwhelming vote in favor of Donald Trump, 52% of attendees, while Senator Rubio received 30% of the vote. In a run-off poll Trump gathered 112 votes to Rubio's 75. From the tone of your speech, it appeared that these numbers were not shared with you, or else you came to tell us your point of view and did not consider the sentiment in the room, as represented by the straw poll. Your presentation assumed everyone in the room was supporting your candidate, and yes this will be over on March 15th, and everyone will go on to the next State primary. However, the sting of your words, that a vote for Trump is a vote to elect Hillary, was inappropriate. That is your opinion and in America, as you know, you are entitled to your opinion. Many of us felt like we did when we heard Madeleine Albright saying women should vote for women. Many of our club members felt the tone of the presentation was inappropriate. This would have been a good opportunity to provide unity at a time when our party needs it most. As a group of women, who are working tirelessly to defeat Hillary Clinton, to hear you proclaim that if we don't vote for Marco Rubio, then our vote would elect Hillary Clinton, we ask you, is that how it works in America? You made it sound like, I am right and you are wrong. That was the message you left us with this evening. The very thing you claim to hold so dearly, the right to cast your vote, was diminished by your speech. We are sure that the organizers of this event did not expect the speech you presented. We respectfully disagree with what you said, but we support your right to say it. Sincerely, Joanne Cooper President- Republican Federated Women of The Villages.
