Inman moved to state prison
Prosecutor will make decision on whether to seek death penalty

Jerry Buck Inman was sent Friday to the maximum-security unit at Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, according to the state Department of Corrections.

He was being held in the Pickens County Detention Center and listed as an escape and assault risk. He was moved after Gov. Mark Sanford approved Pickens County's request for security, the Governor's Office said.

The man charged with strangling and sexually assaulting Clemson student Tiffany Marie Souers will remain in his cell for 23 hours a day, exiting only for showers, recreation and approved attorney meetings, authorities said. He will be segregated from all other inmates.

Inman, 35, was arrested Tuesday in Tennessee after being linked to the killing by DNA from the scene and the nationwide broadcast of the registered sex offender and ex-con's face. He was brought to Pickens Wednesday to hear the charges against him in the death of Souers, whose body was found May 26 in her Central apartment.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail said Friday that he will decide whether to seek the death penalty.

The statement from Ariail's office said state law requires that certain aggravating circumstances be present to involve capital punishment, in this case, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping.

"After a thorough review of the evidence and discussions with my staff, law enforcement and the Souers family, I will make a final decision," Ariail said.
