The stories about families struggling with these serious disorders are heart-wrenching. That said, how is it any less heart-wrenching to watch individuals with HIV/AIDS waste away? Or to sit by as individuals suffer from severe pain and muscle spasticity issues as a result of multiple sclerosis? There are many conditions for which marijuana with varying levels of cannabinoids provides therapeutic relief without severe side effects like the potential for a fatal overdose. On a very personal note, I am a United States Marine Corps combat Veteran, I served 1 tour in Afghanistan, and I was discharged HONORABLY. In 2012 I was diagnosed with PTSD, I have been prescribed a multitude of what I can only describe as poisonous, addictive, and sometimes even deadly "medications" for PTSD, insomnia, anxiety, and the like. Most of these pills, hardly help any of my symptoms at all, most either turn me into a zombie, making everything foggy and unclear, or drowsy and tired all the time, with maybe a 30 to 40 percent reduction in symptoms. However, I have tried medicinal cannabis to treat my symptoms, the results are astonishing. I feel a 80 to 95 percent reduction in ALL of my symptoms, no anxiety, no nightmares, I can finally sleep at night. Medicinal cannabis is a gift from God, not a curse. I will close in asking you to please do everything in your power to legalize medicinal cannabis for South Carolina veterans suffering from PTSD. We fought your war for you, the least you could do is take care of us now that we have returned. Please help bring relief to the seriously ill in our state by supporting a comprehensive medical marijuana bill.
