First, I want you to know that I am a Canadian, born and raised and am currently residing in Ottawa. Secondly, I want you to know that this is about the tragedy in Orlando, Florida. Third, I want you to know that although I am not a member of the LGBTQ community, a person of colour or an American citizen, I have friends who are. Lastly, I want you to know that I am sending this email to each Governor, not just yourself. I know that as a Canadian, I have no say in the lawmaking of the United States, as it is every country's right to govern themselves. With this said, though, I cannot sit idly by and watch my neighbours to the south destroy themselves with this repeated hatred and violence. I am filled with sorrow and fury that time after time, a tragedy, no, an atrocity such as this happens and nothing is done. After Sandy Hook, one would think that legislation for stricter gun laws would have been put in place, but nothing was done. I have a voice, not as an American, but as a human, and I would like to make a simple request that you and your fellow governors get in on the conversation about your gun laws. I know it is a longshot, but if, as a country, you can say together in one unified voice that these acts of hate need to end, maybe someone will listen and maybe you can help prevent something else from happening in the future. Thank you.
