Expert Says Governor is Building
a Taxpayer Resume |
(Columbia) Experts say Governor Mark
Sanford's short list of accomplishments probably won't hurt his
chances for re-election.
Sanford had a list of five
priorities this year, down from three times that in the past. But
when the Legislature adjourned this week, the governor only had two
accomplishments: limiting lawsuits and changing Senate
rules.
University of South Carolina political scientist
Blease Graham says Sanford is building a taxpayer resume, not a
legislative resume. Blease says styling the Legislature as
adversarial could be a political asset.
Sanford says today
he's happy to have stirred up debate on hot-button issues like tax
cuts, school choice and restructuring the government. The governor
says he's pushing to make South Carolina more competitive
globally.
