My youngest son Andrew Cassidy is 20 years old. Last year my son got into some trouble and now has a charge on his record (simple possession of Marijuana). The Marijuana was not his, he was giving someone a ride in his car and the police searched his car and found a small piece of cocaine and shavings of marijuana in the back seat of my son's car. He was arrested and went to jail. I paid his bond and brought him home and he explained to me that he was just giving this other guy a ride and the drugs didn't belong to him, that they must have belonged to the guy he gave the ride to. I know you probably hear that all the time but ma'am, I know my son. He is a good boy, he has never been in trouble before this not even in school, never even been called to the Principal's office. He goes to church twice a week (Wednesdays and Sundays) and he loves to play basketball. I couldn't ask for a better son. I couldn't afford a lawyer so I got him a public defender who told him that "The hand of one was the hand of all" and that he needed to plead guilt and that the Judge would most likely either have him do PTI or drop the charge, since it was his first time ever being in trouble. The judge recommended PTI, but a few weeks later we got a letter saying that PTI was denied. We went back to court and the judge dropped the cocaine charge but not the simple possession of marijuana charge. The problem is, with this charge on his record, he can't get a student loan to go to school, he can't get a job. Every time he applies for a job they run a background check and send him a letter stating that they can't hire him at this time due to the charge on his record. The solicitors office says that the charge will stay on his record for 3 years. I can't afford a lawyer and I don't know who else to turn to. He really is a nice young man and doesn't deserve this. He wants to make something of his life but because of this charge on his record, his life is on hold. Please Ma'am, if there is anything at all that you can do to get this charge off his record, we would be eternally grateful. Ma'am I wish you could meet him so that you could see for your self what a nice young man he really is. From one mother to another please help us. Sincerely Ms. Gabrielle Cassidy Gabrielle Cassidy 114 Cady Drive Summerville, SC 29483 843-425-2342 gabriellecassidy@yahoo.com
