Richland County Public Library and Brisbane Public Library

The Richland County Public Library (RCPL) has established a sister-library relationship with the public library in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Brisbane has the largest public library service in Australia. The partnership between the two libraries is meant to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and information on programs that could be expanded through joint efforts. One program the libraries have developed is a 24 hour, round-the-clock reference service. The RCPL, the Brisbane City Council Library Service in Queensland, Australia, and the Somerset County Council Libraries, Arts and Information Service in the United Kingdom have partnered to provide the first 24 hour global reference service called "Answers Now-All the Time, Across the World" which went live November 4, 2002. To access the service, patrons can logon to one of the three libraries' web sites and click on the Answers Now icon. They will then be able to interact with a reference librarian online, gaining access to information and resources 24 hours a day. The partnership is made possible by software developed by Library Systems & Services, LLC. For more about RCPL, visit http://www.richland.lib.sc.us/
