COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The State Election Commission has
called off Tuesday's runoff election for the state Senate seat now held by
Democrat Maggie Glover of Florence.
Glover was to face Kent Williams in that contest. But allegations of
voter fraud in the primary election prompted the state Democratic Party's
executive committee last week to call for a whole new vote.
Michelle Macrina, the state party's acting executive director, said
Monday that was enough for the Election Commission to call off Tuesday's
vote.
The next step would be for Gov. Mark Sanford to set a date for a new
primary election.
Sanford's office would not immediately say Monday when he would act.
