Rose to Remain at Dept. of Public Safety
(Columbia-AP) -- Governor Mark Sanford has asked Public Safety Director Boykin Rose to continue to run the agency until a replacement is found.

Rose's four-year term concluded during the weekend.

Gubernatorial spokesman Will Folks says Sanford asked Rose on Friday to serve as acting director until a replacement is appointed and qualified.

Folks says Sanford expects to make an announcement soon. Folks would not say when that might be or say who is being considered
for the post.

Public Safety Department spokesman Sid Gaulden says Rose is not available to talk about the situation today.

Sanford said in the 2002 campaign that changes were needed at the Division of Motor Vehicles, which Rose was responsible for at the time. The division has since been made a separate state agency under Sanford's control.
