Sanford Appoints 3 New First
Steps Trustees |
(Columbia-AP) -- Republican Governor Mark
Sanford has appointed three new trustees to the First Steps
board.
First Steps spokeswoman Felice Lampert says Sanford
has named Cayce Representative Kenny Bingham, a Republican, to
replace Democratic Representative James Smith, of
Columbia.
Smith says he was surprised to learn of his removal
from the board. Smith proposed the program pushed by former
Democratic Governor Jim Hodges.
Smith says he is concerned
that Sanford has not done more to support the program designed to
give children a head start on school.
He says budget cuts
could trim 37 million dollars from First Steps
funding.
Sanford also named Lewis Smoak, chairman of the
Greenville County First Steps board. Smoak replaces Barnwell
attorney Terry Richardson.
Linda O'Quinn will replace Doctor
Robert Saul of the Greenwood Genetic Center. |
