Hundreds Rally At Statehouse To Support School Choice
Bill Before General Assembly
COLUMBIA --
Hundreds of parents, educators and civic leaders gathered at the
Statehouse Tuesday morning to rally for more school choice.
Gov. Mark Sanford is pushing lawmakers to pass a bill that would
give a tax credit to parents who send their children to private or charter
schools as well as those who homeschool.
Sanford told the crowd the state can no longer afford incremental
changes in education. He said the bill takes the politics out of education
and makes schools respond to the power of the marketplace.
Opponents say the proposal would take money away from public
schools.
