Agribusiness Associations Unite for Summer Meeting
HILTON HEAD---The South Carolina Seedsmens Association and the South Carolina Fertilizer and Agrichemicals Association have joined forces to establish the first-ever joint Summer Meeting. The meeting will be held at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort at Hilton Head Island on July 13-17, 2001.
Because of agricultural industry mergers and downsizing, the two associations have agreed that consolidation of their meetings was not only inevitable but also practical. In the past few years seed and chemical companies have joined forces. So, although combining the meetings was a challenge for planners, everyone agreed that the united effort was a more efficient and effective solution to providing information on the issues related to both segments of agribusiness.
The combined meeting will include a Clemson University Research Roundtable led by Dr. Jim Fisher, Dean of Agricultural Research, on Sunday afternoon and business meetings and the general session on Monday. Topics for the general session will include: water issues, the impact of new EPA rules, trait stewardship, intellectual property protection, and the impact of the recent state government budget cuts on agricultural services. In addition to working sessions, the event will also include time off for fellowship. An opening reception followed by entertainment by Woody Windham, “Woody with the Goodies,” will be held on Sunday evening, and a golf tournament and an awards dinner will be featured on Monday.
Members of each of the associations and others interested in agriculture are urged to call 803-732-9093 for more information about the meeting. On-site registration will be held July 14 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. To reserve a room at the group rate, call 1-800-845-8001 by July 13.
