Hey-

Can you please help me with seeing if Nikki is ok doing a short letter
commending Ed Steers? He's the AD at Porter-Gaud who is retiring and
they're having a dinner for him Thursday. Language for the letter and
his bio if you need more info are below:

Letter:

Dear Coach Steers: I am writing today to congratulate you on your
outstanding career and retirement as the Athletic Director of the
Porter-Gaud school.  Under your leadership, Porter-Gaud Athletics has
consistently been one of the most successful and well-rounded athletic
programs in the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA).
The twenty-six state titles and the three SCISA President’s Cup
awards during your tenure stand for themselves

Michael and I wish you and Sally all the best as you begin the next
journey. We thank you for your leadership and guidance to the students
and families of our great state.  While you will certainly be missed
at Porter-Gaud, your legacy will remain long after you depart.

Ed Steers bio:

As brilliant as Coach Steers has been as AD for the Cyclones, many do
not know details about Ed's career prior to his arrival at
Porter-Gaud. As a student-athlete at the Citadel (class of 1968),
Coach Steers was a three-time Southern Conference champion in
wrestling, never losing in a dual meet.  He entered the coaching
profession following a very brief stint as a tank officer in the
Vietnam era, coaching for the Army, then as head coach at William and
Mary and at the US Military Academy at West Point.  He is still the
winningest wrestling coach in the history of both programs, and has
been named to The Citadel's Athletic Hall of Fame, the National
Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the New York Collegiate Wrestling Hall of
Fame. He also was named The Citadel's Alumnus of the year in 2002.

But more important than all of these accolades has been Coach Steers'
influence on the coaches, the athletes, and the Porter-Gaud community.
Ed models a lifestyle of personal fitness and discipline by squeezing
in a run every day. He knows the name and the story of every single
athlete and coach-and notoriously chokes up in telling the best ones
every season at the athletic assemblies.  He is present when buses
pull out at 5 AM, and he is present on the sidelines of almost every
athletic event, whether bantam, JV, or varsity.  The PG athletic
department and the entire school join in thanking him for his service
and wishing him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. While
his leadership and guidance will be sorely missed at Porter-Gaud, his
legacy will remain long after he departs.
