A few cars were exiting through unpaved connections to I95 South, but most of us followed like lemmings. There were no SC police cars, no messages, no alternate routes, and both of my Garmin GPS devices showed "green" traffic. There was emergency bridge work at MM 171 but we never thought that one lane's closing would cause that much delay. We finally got off on US 301 at "South of the Border" and found very sparse traffic. Was everyone on vacation? Doesn't someone at SCDOT keep tabs on traffic? Can't traffic be rerouted to virtually empty routes such as US 301? As I was ill with a pulmonary infection and on codeine cough meds, I did not drive, and my wife (bless her)drove for 8 hours by herself, although she rarely can drive more than 2 hours at a time because of her own medical problems. -- James A Wilson, MD
