Longleaf Seedlings Available

COLUMBIA---For the first time in several years, the South Carolina Forestry Commission's Taylor Nursery has surplus longleaf seedlings available for sale to the public.  Longleaf seedlings have been in such short supply in previous years that a lottery has been used to ensure their fair distribution.  However, their scarcity has caused some landowners to give up on planting longleaf after repeatedly not being able to locate them anywhere in the Southeast.

Excellent germination and growth of seedlings at Taylor Nursery last spring and summer, combined with the lack of a USDA Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) signup for longleaf planting last year, have resulted in a surplus of 2.1 million bareroot longleaf seedling that are still available for sale.  They are available in 1,000, 500, and 100 count bags for $85, $45, and $16 respectively. Orders should be placed as soon as possible since spring is just around the corner.

Anybody interested in ordering seedlings should call Lisa Mason at 803-896-8910.  Seedlings can be conveniently picked up at the South Carolina Forestry Commission seedling coolers located in Edgefield, Colleton, Spartanburg, and Sumter Counties.
