COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The state House of Representatives is scheduled to begin debating the state's $5.8 billion dollar spending plan. The House usually meets on Tuesday's but is starting this week a little earlier.
One of the programs that faces a cut is the Commission for the Blind's Radio Reading program. The program provides a special radio receiver for blind South Carolinians that lets them listen to news read from papers across the state and region.
Governor Mark Sanford said the state should divert the money from the program to other blindness prevention programs. The House Ways and Means Committee, which writes the budget, agreed to the cut.
