SECRETARY MILES ISSUES FINDINGS ON DOWNTOWN RESCUE
MISSION
Secretary of State Jim Miles announced today
investigators in his office have found no
violations of the S.C. Solicitation of Charitable
Funds Act by the Downtown Rescue Mission of
Spartanburg.
According to Secretary Miles, the Downtown Rescue
Mission does not qualify for the religious
exemption, since part of the income does inure to
the direct benefit of members. Both Rev. Stanley
and Rev. Walton received salaries from the
mission.
“However, the Downtown Rescue Mission duly
registered with our office as a charitable
organization and has filed the appropriate forms,”
said Miles. “Not only is the mission required to
comply with registration, they have acted
accordingly.”
Secretary Miles added that the office has not
received any consumer complaints regarding
solicitation violations by the Downtown Rescue
Mission.
“At this time, we have found no violations, and
therefore, there are no sanctions to be issued,”
said Miles.
