I want a divorce and so does my husband. There are no children involved nor any disagreement over property. We are perfectly amicable and in complete agreement. However, this state tells me I have to wait 12 months before I can even file for divorce. What possible purpose does this serve? You can get married within a couple of days, and you can get an abortion within a few minutes - why do I have to wait 12 months for a divorce? I have been separated for 6 months now, and according to the law, I cannot file for divorce for another 6 months. I want to marry again while I am still alive. This provision is intrusive on my civil liberties and arbitrary in length. Is there not something that can be done about this arbitrary rule, or are there any exceptions that can be made?
