CONSUMER NOTICE: ANTHRAX GROUP NOT REGISTERED IN
SOUTH CAROLINA
The group calling
itself “Anthrax Task Force” has not registered to
solicit funds in South Carolina, according to
Secretary of State Jim Miles and the Charities
Division of the Secretary of State’s Office.
Secretary Miles has received numerous calls in the
last 48 hours regarding flyers and solicitations
distributed by this organization, particularly in
the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
“At this time, the Anthrax Task Force has not
registered to solicit citizens in South Carolina,
as required by state law,” said Secretary Miles.
“I would like to commend the citizens who have
followed our advice and called the Office of the
Secretary of State to check out this charity.”
Miles added that because of the heightened
sensitivity and concern related to terrorism and
anthrax, the Secretary of State’s Office is
alerting citizens that there is no anthrax-related
charity registered to do business in South
Carolina.
For more consumer information, contact the Office
of Secretary of State Jim Miles at 1-888-CHARITI.
