Dowd 3012 Shalimar Dr. Conway SC 29526 robd0303@gmail.com 843-331-8885 I am writing in hopes of getting some help for a group of students at the Carvers Bay Middle School in Hemingway, SC. Below is the ad for their gofundme page. This special group of girls have made it to the national level to represent the great state of South Carolina at National History Day in College Park, Maryland this June. However, without funding this trip is in serious jeopardy. My wife is the teacher of this group (Amber Dowd) and I sit here this evening watching her cry because she is afraid these girls are going to miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime and all their hard work go to waste. Most of these girls have never left the state of South Carolina. On the recent trip to Columbia where they won the right to travel to nationals, one of the girls didn't even know that it was ok to take your leftovers home from a restaurant, and another didn't know how to read a menu. This is a very hard working group of girls that need your help. Please assist us getting these girls to Washington D.C. for the opportunity to see our nations capital and represent our great state at the highest level. Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time. Robert W. Dowd We are five young ladies from Carvers Bay Middle School, a Title 1 school, in Hemingway, SC. This year, we worked hard on learning and creating a visual performance on the Oregon Trail for a competition called National History Day (NHD). Our journey includes regionals in Lake City, S.C. and the state level of competition in Blythewood, S.C. where we placed second in the whole state. Our next step is the national level in Washington, D.C. In order to compete, we need to raise the funds to travel there for a five day, four night trip. With five students and two chaperones, the entire trip will cost us an estimate of $6,000. The cost of the trip includes lodging, food, gas, and touring the history that Washington, D.C. offers. We are also working diligently to fundraise money within our community including Krispy Kreme doughnut sales and school activities. If we are unable to raise the funds, our position in competition will be offered to the 3rd place winners. We are hoping to have the funds by June 1, 2016. We are excited to represent Carvers Bay Middle School and Georgetown County School District in a national competition. In addition, the opportunity to experience our nation's capital, historic sites, and national monuments is an invaluable learning opportunity to us. We strongly believe that attending this competition and participating in this journey will contribute to our education. We are very grateful for any help you could provide to us in our hopes of going to and WINNING at Nationals. Thank you. 66.153.232.202
