COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An Army sergeant from Columbia killed in Iraq has been buried with full military honors.
Twenty-five-year-old Andrew Joseph Derrick was killed by a sniper last month in Baghdad while he was on patrol with Iraqi police.
His mother, Suzy Shealy, says it's important that her son be honored for his bravery.
He had been scheduled to return to Columbia for a two-week leave next week.
More than 500 people attended the funeral yesterday.
The Reverend George Crow says Derrick put himself in harm's way for those who are weak and defenseless.
Derrick had done tours of duty in Bosnia, South Korea and Iraq.
