This weapon is, for all intent and purposes, an air-powered dart gun that has been designed to propel an arrow for the purpose of hunting. Many of these advertisements and promotional writings indicate the intention is for these weapons to be used during "Archery" only hunting seasons. As a bowhunter, I am concerned the introduction of such a weapon into an archery only season would have a negative impact on the season as a whole. I am primarily concerned about the "Airbow" because it is a shoulder-fired weapon that, in no way, meets the archery definition of being a hand drawn weapon in which the string propels an arrow. This new weapon is being touted as making hunting with archery more "accessible", but the whole purpose for an archery season are the limitations of archery equipment and the additional challenges it provides. A hunter needs to practice regularly with a bow and arrow and to learn how to get closer to their quarry. Additionally, a bow and arrow requires movement on behalf of the shooter to aim, draw, and release the weapon. There is noise associated with these movements - noise that is amplified by the closer proximity to game. The Airbow was designed to combat these challenges, which is an affront to the sport as a whole. The Airbow is nothing more than a gun that fires an arrow instead of a bullet. It has no place in Archery only seasons and should be restricted to only being allowed during "Gun Season" or what some refer to as "Open Season". Thank you for your consideration of my viewpoint on this matter. I believe it is an important issue and would like to see the legislation introduced to protect the integrity of bowhunting in our state to prevent the use of the "Airbow" during archery only seasons. Sincerely, Ron Herman
