My wife was employed as a professor at Lander university in Greenwood. Because of budget restraints her position was eliminated. After an exhausted search in state and out of state she applied for unemployment something that I had to force her to do. She applied received her 1st check (Great) then she received a letter saying she needed to be at the employment office on date in September. The date was the same date she was interviewing out of state for another job she called the office explained that to them sent them the interview time date and the committee members names that would be interviewing her. The next payment week she was informed that her benefits where suspended for missing the profiling meeting. so I guess trying to get a job is not as important in South Carolina as going to a meeting. Seems South Carolina is trying to keep folks in the system instead of them finding employment and getting off unemployment roles. Or get them so frustrated that they give up. South Carolina needs to remember that not only employers but employees pay the taxes that pay for those benefits. I would truly love to hear back about your policies but I am sure I will not. Its just frustrating that a person with a doctorate in education uprooted her life to move and teach in your state position ends because of no one fault yet can not get unemployment because the state thinks they need to teach her how to get a new job. I even understand that but to disqualify because she had an interview really for the life of me I can not understand that. Thank you and I hope to hear from someone about this issue Keith Deaton A concerned husband and part time resident of South Carolina
