Subject: Proc for Winter Wx Week

Good Morning Katherine….

I am very late in getting this to you this year… it’s the draft proclamation for the upcoming Winter Weather Awareness Week.  Do you think we’ll have enough time to put it together?

-------------

Proclamation By

Governor Nikki Haley

For 2015 Winter Weather Awareness Week

Whereas,        South Carolina is vulnerable to various types of severe winter weather, including cold temperatures, snow, ice storms and freezing rain; and

Whereas,        severe winter weather can cause injury and death through hypothermia, frost bite, heart attack, traffic accidents and other related causes; and

Whereas,        severe winter weather can interrupt electrical and communication services to homes, schools and businesses; and

Whereas,        the state has experienced severe winter weather, including ice storms, resulting in significant damage, power outages and loss of life; and

Whereas,        even while the effects of October’s historic flooding are still readily apparent, it’s critical now more than ever for the Palmetto to be prepared for the possibility of a severe winter.

Now, Therefore, I, Nikki Haley, Governor of the Great State of South Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 29 through December 5, 2015, as

South Carolina

Winter Weather Awareness Week

throughout the state and urge all South Carolinians to join the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the National Weather Service, the State Emergency Response Team and County Emergency Managers in this effort to increase awareness for winter weather safety and to help further disaster preparedness statewide.
