At Least Six Deaths Blamed on Weather
(Columbia-AP) -- Six people have died in traffic accidents because of slick weather conditions.

Freezing rain fell across the central part of the state in the morning and reached the Pee Dee and coastal areas by afternoon. Ice, sleet and snow covers most of South Carolina and closed schools and state government offices across the state.

Small and large utilities in South Carolina reported nearly 200,000 outages in the state. Power crews have been hampered by power lines breaking from ice.

Reports of sleet and ice came in as far southeast as Myrtle Beach, where a tenth of an inch had been reported.

Officials are urging travelers to call their airline before heading to the airport.
