Good Morning,
Last week I got walloped by a case
of pneumonia that left me, literally, breathless.
Even though we were in the middle of
the House budget cycle, I was able to rest and stay safely away from people
while Susan Montgomery and others kept me apprised of developments and in touch
with the appropriate legislators and staff.
I am thankful for our senior
leadership team: your competence and dedication allow me to rest easy and know
that we are in good hands. I know that each of you feels the same about your
peers and your team.
I especially regret missing the
Awards Luncheon and congratulating the recipients. To those of you who were
recognized, congratulations. Those are difficult decisions and many are
deserving of recognition.
At every level of this agency, we
have great talent. We have CO’s who could be sergeants; captains who could be
majors; majors who could be associates; wardens who could be deputy directors;
branch chiefs who could lead divisions; and so on, up and down our org chart. In
an ideal world, everyone would get a chance. But, the best we can do is to give
as many people as possible an opportunity to compete for advancement.
We will soon have a new Director of
Budget and Resources, Ms. Marsha Kjoller. She has a broad background in budget
and finance in both the public and private sectors. I hope that you will welcome
her, at your first opportunity.
Have a great
week,
