SIMPLY THE BEST
Treasurer’s Service Rewarded, Again

(Charleston, SC) South Carolina State Treasurer Grady L. Patterson, Jr. picked up another award for outstanding performance last week. The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) Lowcountry Chapter recognized the State Treasurer’s Office as "Outstanding Public Agency of the Year."

The ASPA plaque, presented on May 24th at the Chapter’s Annual Meeting in Charleston, reads: "In recognition of outstanding banking and financial management services to citizens and the State of South Carolina." Mr. Patterson’s office was identified as a leader in enhanced organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and for dramatic improvements in customer interaction.

"We have an outstanding group of people working for, and with us, and we are working to improve our operations every day," Mr. Patterson said. "We continue to refine the State Treasurer’s office to use technology that improves effectiveness, accuracy, and makes it easier to work with the general public."

ASPA was established almost sixty years ago. Their goal was to professionalize public service, to keep members on the cutting edge of good government, and to help answer the enduring question of how to make government work better. *

Mr. Patterson thanked the group in a letter stating: "It is an honor to serve at such a time of great change. Today, we are the catalysts building better governments for our children and grandchildren. I have always tried to serve on the premise that my job is a public trust and it is my duty to search everyday for innovative solutions to government’s problems.

"We are doing more with less, and better than ever before. On behalf of our great staff, and the State of South Carolina, thank you for this honor," Mr. Patterson’s letter concluded. "And as we – and the ASPA – continue searching for how to make government work better, we’ll take pride in our service, and keep our eyes open to the many possibilities of the future."
