On May 14, 2002, Governor Hodges honored the seven winners
of his Spring 2002 Middle School Reading Challenge and
their sponsoring teachers at a luncheon where they discussed
the joy of reading.
Too often students
lose interest in reading for enjoyment by they time they
enter fifth grade. Governor Hodges’ Middle School Reading
Challenge targets middle school students and is designed
to introduce them to quality literature, promote excellence
in reading and writing, and spark a love of reading throughout
South Carolina.
