(Columbia-AP) May 11, 2004 - Governor Mark
Sanford's 16th cabinet meeting was held Tuesday
in a most unusual place. Sanford assembled his
agency heads in an empty wing at Broad River
Correctional Institution in Columbia.
Sanford says he wanted them to see what goes
on behind bars because the Corrections
Department is an easy place to ignore.
Prisons Director Jon Ozmint gave the cabinet
a tour of the factory where prisoners made
license plates, street signs and rebuild
computers for foster families.
Sanford says Ozmint has done a good job of
breaking from the status quo and coming up with
new ways of saving money.
