Bryan Named Veterinarian of the Year
COLUMBIA---The South Carolina Association of Veterinarians (SCAV) recently named Dr. Jones W. Bryan Veterinarian of the Year.
Bryan is the Director of Clemson University's Livestock-Poultry Health Program and has been a state veterinarian since 1989.
"Dr. Bryan was selected because of his outstanding service to the state and national veterinary profession," said Dr. Dan Spearman, an Easley veterinarian and chairman of the SCAV awards committee.
Bryan served as SCAV president in 1982 and was a delegate to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). He also served on the AVMA Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine and Food safety Subcommittee.
"Choosing veterinary medicine as a career has afforded me a wonderful opportunity for service to both man and animals," Bryan said. "Though I believe you career is not your life, this has been a wonderful opportunity to integrate both. To receive this recognition form your professional peers is a most rewarding experience."
Bryan was a member of the AVMA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Relations Committee from 1992 until 1996. He was also president of the National Assembly of Chief Livestock Officials and the U.S. Animal Health Association.
The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine honored him as Distinguished Alumnus in 1994. And, in 1998, the SC Pork Board honored him with their Annual Service Award for his contributions to the pork industry.
In 1975, he was voted outstanding citizen of Allendale County and was mayor of Fairfax from 1979 to 1987.
Bryan is a native of Allendale County and has a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia.
