The House gave key approval Tuesday to a bill that would require all school
board elections to be held on the second Tuesday of November. The vote
authorizing second reading was 60 in favor and 24 opposed.

The Senate approved a $6.5 billion state spending plan last week. Five
senators were recorded as voting against the budget, including Campsen of
Charleston and Grooms of Bonneau.
