DNR seeks help in updating list of wildlife rehabbers
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) seeks to serve as the principal advocate for and steward of South Carolina’s natural resources. This includes the wildlife populations of our state.
DNR does not have the facilities, staff or available budget to rehab individual members of the state’s wildlife populations. The care and treatment of injured or orphaned wildlife is specialized and should be left to those who are professionally trained to deal with their husbandry and dietary needs. As a result, DNR has compiled and maintained the Wildlife Rehabilitators Registry to assist the public with injured or orphaned wildlife. These individuals or organizations are nonprofit and are not federally or state funded. They volunteer their time and efforts to wildlife rehabilitation.
DNR is looking for new volunteers to add to the registry in virtually every county across the state. If you are interested in being added to the registry please e-mail the below requested information to Johnsons@dnr.sc.gov.
For those already listed on the registry, DNR is asking the wildlife rehabilitators to verify or update their contact information. Updates and changes can also be e-mailed to the above address.
When e-mailing in your information please include the following: county, city/town, name, organization, animals received, phone, services provided, website address and any additional comments.
Please send in your information no later than March 23, 2012.
