ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson County
Council let the public weigh in on a proposal to repeal the
county's blue law during its Tuesday night meeting.
About 100 people attended the meeting
The law prohibits buying anything other than groceries
and medicine before 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Most people who spoke out at the meeting want the law
to stay on the books.
They said Sundays are sacred and should remain that
way. However, the council voted for a second time in favor of
repealing the law.
Several council members told WYFF News 4 dropping the
ban would make Anderson County more competitive with other
counties across the Upstate.
The council will take a final vote on the issue on Dec.
19.
If the ordinance is approved, it would only apply to
the county’s unincorporated areas.
