I'm very disappointed that you would bow to the pressure of misinformed politically correct reactionaries and suggest removing the Confederate battle flag from a war memorial. I assume you know that this is a battle falg carried by the Army of Northern Virginia and not an official flag of the Confederacy. The men and boys, very few of whom owned slaves, who risked their lives to fight in the Confederate army did not do so out of an evil desire to keep people in bondage. They did so out of a sense of duty and patriotism in response to an invading Northern army. Removing the battle flag is to dishonor these brave people, not a statement against slavery and racism. If you want to do something to assuage the PC crowd and genuinely remove some of the stain of slavery, why not remove monuments to the people who actually owned slaves and the politicians who actively worked to preserve slavery? Remove the John Calhoun monument for example. The Confederate states have a right and a duty to honor the men who fought out of a desire to protect their homeland from an invading army. You can work to remove some things that honor people like Calhoun who actively supported slavery, but you should keep the Confederate battle flag on the war memorial exactly where it belongs. Sincerely, A damned Yankee
