A statewide Amber Alert was issued Thursday afternoon to locate
Jerry William Jones.
Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation asked
neighboring states, including South Carolina, to issue the alert,
said State Law Enforcement Division Chief Robert Stewart.
Stewart said there is no information that indicates Jones may be
in the state. He said there is a concern Jones may be in a
neighboring state.
When an alert is issued, SLED notifies radio and television
stations through e-mails and faxes. SLED also notifies law
enforcement agencies and the state Department of Transportation,
which would put messages on electronic highway signs.
Thursday’s alert was the first time the state issued an Amber
Alert since the system was put into effect in November 2002, Stewart
said.
