Dear Gov., it's always nice to see a strong woman in charge. I am writing you to encourage you to keep an open mind on several issues that affect working people. I am 10 years older than you and have worked in several states. In the 80's in Alabama when I applied for jobs that were not food and beverage related, the male bosses would ask me; "who's your daddy?" Then they would tell me to go try to get a job at one of the fast food restaurants.
   It wasn't until I landed a union job in Hawaii until I finally had a voice and I was finally treated as an equal. Unions do so much good for everyone, especially women and immigrants. I for the first time in my life had/have medical insurance and also a retirement plan. The average home in Hawaii starts at $600,000. Without fair wages I would never be able to buy a house for my family. It of course requires two working adults, but thanks to union jobs we can provide for our family. 
   Do you think without the union the businesses we work for would pay us a fair wage? No!  I am convinced bosses and owners will pay as little as possible to make the most profit as possible. Corporations do not care if their employees have a good retirement plan. They want to get rid of most workers as they get older. You seem intelligent and I just want to encourage you to keep an open mind about unions and not follow blindly whatever the Republican Party throws out. Thank you, Gina Alcos
