I went to pick everything on Wednesday and found that I could not pick up my medications and insulin at Walgreens, get extra gas, snacks, bucket of chicken, etc. I couldn't even get my mortgage payment mailed because the St. Helena post office front door was completely taped closed as was the outside mail box - they didn't even cut a small slit for anyone to mail anything. Hardly any gas stations were open for people wanting to fill up and leave. And we live on disability and cannot afford to evacuate to some hotel with all of our pets and my 92-year old Mom. I am 62 and have lived in Beaufort County all of my life, even through Hurricane Gracie, and never saw such a screwed up mess. To over-react is as bad as to fail to act at all. Thankfully, our church has better communication and actions.
