Taylors Residents Vote On Becoming A City
Polls Open Until 7 P.M.
TAYLORS, S. C. --
Residents in the Taylors sewer and fire district go to the polls
Tuesday to decide whether to become Greenville County's second-largest
city.
On Monday night, about 300 people attended a meeting at the Taylors
library to discuss the pros and cons of becoming a city.
Those opposed to incorporation said they're afraid their taxes will
skyrocket.
"I don't mind being inside a city, just as long as it's not going
to cost me too much and I'm going to get what I pay for. I don't want to
pay $100 and only get $50 worth of service," said Taylors resident David
Golla.
"I wish they would hold off on it, then do more research and come
back within a year. It's just not feasible for citizens of Taylors," said
Taylors resident Brandon McMahon.
Supporters said even if residents reject incorporation, higher
taxes are inevitable.
There are about 24,000 people living in Taylors, but only those who
pay taxes to the district for sewer and fire services are eligible to vote
Tuesday.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.
