This semester, I am enrolled in NUR 409/ Population Nursing. My clinical group is coordinating with the National Chronic Disease Screening Program: Screening for Diabetes in Underserved Rural Communities in South Carolina in Governor Haley's hometown of Bamberg, South Carolina. Dr. Carolyn Jenkins, a faculty member within the College of Nursing and the South Carolina Translational Research Institute, is the Principal Investigator for this grant. Our clinical group will conduct a Diabetes Education and Free Screening to the residents of Bamberg County. It is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2014 from 9:00 am -2:00 pm. We will provide knowledge on average lipid levels, A1C, blood pressure, blood glucose levels and body mass index (BMI). The place of the screening will be confirmed at a later date. We would like to invite Governor Haley to attend this event. It would be our great pleasure if Governor Haley would attend this screening to help bring awareness of this important topic to Bamberg and our state. I look forward to a favorable reply and am happy to provide Governor Haley or her staff with any additional information. Please contact me via email or phone. Sincerely, Michelle E.
