Live 5 News

Governor Mark Sanford begins his first full day of his second term today. Lawmakers are hoping he starts off on the right foot with them.

The governor's first term saw him involved in several battles with members of both the house and senate. Lawmakers tell Live 5 News they are willing to listen to the governor's ideas, but say actions will speak louder than words.

Sanford was sworn in for a second term yesterday in front of politicians, family, and friends. He says he wants to improve health care and education, and limit government growth during his second term.

After the swearing-in came the fun. Festivities continued into the evening with the inaugural barbecue. By the governor's own design, the inaugural barbecue is meant to be something for everyone.

Of the 13 BBQ vendors, three are from Charleston. More than 2000 pounds of barbecue were served at the event, with an attendance of about 2000 people that’s a pound of pork for every person.
