Gainus Request to meet the Governor Ocean Bay Middle School National History Day students 905 International Drive Myrtle Beach SC 29579 bgainus@horrycountyschools.net 843-655-9980 843-903-8420 ex.52811 SCHED Request to meet the Governor 206.219.158.10 Dear Madame Governor, On behalf of my students and colleagues of Ocean Bay Middle School in Myrtle Beach, I am requesting an opportunity to meet you when we visit the State House on the morning of April 22. As part of our ELA and Social Studies curriculum, our students participate in the National History Day (NHD) program. As such our students research a topic related to South Carolina history and create a documentary, exhibit, historical paper, performance, or website to display their research. Their topic and research must tie in with the NHD theme; this year's theme is "Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History". For the fourth consecutive year we are taking students to the State competition, with this year being our largest group students, in the hopes of advancing to the National competition for a fourth year in a row at the University of Maryland this June. Last year our school was honored by having one of our students represent South Carolina at the National Endowment for the Humanities Breakfast on the Hill where he met with a member of our state's congressional delegation. As in every other year, our students work so hard just to advance to the state level, and we honor their hard work and dedication every year with a trip to Columbia to visit the State House and the State Museum the day before the State competition. This year my colleagues and I are hoping to make this trip even more special by requesting a meeting with you. I know this is a very short notice and that your time is very limited, but if you are able to take a moment to visit with our students we would be so humbly honored. With kind regards, Billy Gainus 8th Grade ELA and South Carolina History Teacher
