Waldrep won't seek re-election to state Senate seat

Associated Press

State Sen. Bob Waldrep says he's "probably not" going to seek a fourth term.

"It's time to let someone else embark on this particular job," Waldrep, R-Anderson, said Monday.

Waldrep, 67, made an unsuccessful bid last year for the 3rd Congressional District seat Lindsey Graham left to run for the U.S. Senate.

Waldrep says Anderson Reps. Brian White and Michael Thompson have been mentioned as potential candidates. Both are in their second House terms.

Waldrep's departure would be the second of a Republican incumbent in the Senate, where the GOP holds 25 of 46 seats. Sen. Arthur Ravenel, R-Mt. Pleasant, says he's not running again.
