He lives with his mother in Irmo, S.C. He cannot live without help, he lives in a wheelchair now (not a very good one)due to his disability in which he was diagnosed many many years ago with MD. He has seen many doctors who have made it possible to clarify his disability with Medicare. He is getting a disability check every month, which the State has screwed that up many many times by making him pay back over-payments back to the State saying they over paid him on his disability then when he pays it back then they reimburse him for making over-payments then again later they write him telling him he received an over payment from his disability check and write him again telling him he needs to repay back the over-payment again. This has happened so many times by the local medicare/medicaid offices. Talk about confusion this has put him and his mom through so much hell. He use to get food stamps, but they dropped it down to $40.00 a month and later it was cancelled $40.00 wasn't enough to feed him on a monthly basis. Since he lives with his mom for care of him on his disability his mother can only works part-time due to her getting her deceased husbands SS benefits the State tells her she can only receive a certain amount of income per year and with the bills they have and only able to work part-time and his small amount of SSD income and no food stamps for him to help feed him efficiently it has been very difficult. He has had too sleep down stairs on a couch since last summer due to a fall which caused a back injury effecting his MD and now throughout all her efforts to get the State to help him out to have a mobile wheel chair lift put in on the steps so he can get up stairs to his room she has been turned down for any State funding to help get this wheel chair lift so he can go to bed in his own room. She has offered to give him her room downstairs, but the bed mattress she has is too firm/hard for the support of his muscles in his back because of the MD the couch is the only thing that has more comfort right now. She has made his doctors aware of his situation and they have sent everything into the State to help him to get this wheelchair lift and he keeps getting turned down by their local medicare/medicaid office. She did request for a proper wheelchair to get for him to help him out with his muscles which are deteriating on a daily basis. She was told that she needed to do certain things to be eligible which she has done on his behalf and after all their efforts now they have turned him down for a proper wheelchair. Is there anything you can do for my poor nephew, Darren O'Connor? Please tell me you can. I am begging for some help! I really feel like the State of South Carolina has neglected the disabled. Darren is only 36 years old and has lived with this disease all his life. Everyday that goes by is critical for him because his MD is now effecting his heart muscle. Time is limited for him I fear. Please hear me. You can call me at 304-887-8678 if you need too. Eileen
