I personally was "High and dry" during the so called 1000 year storm.  Unfortunately, some of my friends did not fare as well as I did.

The 83 year old mother of one of my friends, had to be evacuated by kayak, to a shelter set up at the Summerville High School.  We picked her up the next morning and she is now with relatives in West Virginia. 

These friends of mine, owned a duplex.  They lived in one side and that 83 year old lived in the other half.  Yesterday, I went over there to help with some clean up.  SC National Guard troops, came through the area not once, but at least three times, removing debris, in the six hours I was there.  Once, when they were picking up trash and saw us struggling to remove some large, bulky, water soaked furniture, they came to our assistance and "manhandled" those items out the the street for removal.

I have lived in SC for many years and even went through Hurricane Hugo.  I must say that the way you and your staff/team have handled this disaster exceeds anything that I have seen, including Hugo.

Good job, in the light of a difficult situation.  You have shown true leadership and I can't see casting a vote, not for you, in the next election.
