GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A Greenwood legislator is pushing a bill that would require flying a black and white flag honoring prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action on some state buildings six days each year.

So far, 55 legislators have signed on to support the House bill introduced May 1.

Legislators thought it would be a "good thing to do to show our patriotism in support of our veterans and our troops," said State Rep. J. Anne Parks, D-Greenwood.

The flag shows a bowed, silhouetted head and says "You are not forgotten."

The bill calls for the banner to fly above rest areas and other locations required by the governor on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day and Veterans Day.

"People need to know there are still American MIAs," said Jack C. Ward Jr., an Army veteran from Travelers Rest.
